Let me introduce you to three people you already know: The Manager. He is the part of you that works overtime to keep everything under control. Plans ahead. Avoids risk. Makes sure nobody finds out. He is exhausted and he is running your life. The Firefighter. He is the part that shows up when the pain gets too loud and the Manager cannot hold it together anymore. He does not care about consequences. He just wants the fire out. Right now. He is the one reaching for the screen at 11 PM. The Exile. He is the part underneath all of it. The wounded one. The one carrying the shame, the loneliness, the old hurt that nobody ever noticed. He is the reason the Firefighter shows up in the first place. Here is the thing... The part of you that acts out is not your enemy. It is just trying to help badly. It learned to reach for the wrong thing because nobody ever taught it to reach for the right one. Freedom does not come from fighting these parts. It comes from leading them. Understanding what they need. That is what the Undivided Heart Program is built to do. A 16-week Parts Work group experience for Catholic men in recovery. A skilled Parts Work facilitator and I will be holding a free information meeting on August 24th at 8:00 PM EDT on Zoom. No commitment. No pressure. One hour to hear what this is about and ask questions. If something in you just recognized itself in the Manager, the Firefighter, or the Exile, that is not an accident. Reply to this email and I will send you the Zoom link. This new group could be the thing that changes everything. And for the betrayed wife reading this: the Firefighter who reached for the screen was trying to put out a fire your husband did not know how to name. That does not excuse what happened. But understanding it is the beginning of something different. Encourage him to come to the meeting. One hour. 2 Practical Tips: To Battle Lust: The next time the urge hits, ask yourself: which part just showed up? The Manager trying to control something? The Firefighter trying to kill the pain? Just naming it interrupts the autopilot. That is the beginning of the work. To Help Your Wife Heal: Tell her about the Manager, the Firefighter, and the Exile. Then ask her which one she has felt most in your marriage. Listen without defending. "I am starting to understand why I kept going back even when I did not want to. I want to show you what I am learning. Can I tell you about it?" The Undivided Heart Program. Free info meeting. August 24th. 8:00 PM EDT. Reply for the Zoom link. Join Catholics Fight Porn here. Termites don't announce themselves. That is the whole problem. They work quietly, invisibly, from the inside out. You walk across the floor every day and nothing seems wrong. Until one morning the floor gives way and you are hurt and standing in the damage wondering how you missed it. Secrets work exactly the same way: The lie you told two years ago. The acting out nobody knows about. The version of yourself you have been presenting to your wife, your kids, your friends, your priest, that...
Tonight. 8:00 PM Eastern. One hour. Free. The Undivided Heart Program information session is happening tonight on Zoom and if you have been on the fence about whether this is for you, this is the hour that answers that question. This will be an honest conversation about what Parts Work actually is, what the Undivided Heart Program is designed to do, and whether this group is the right next step for where you are in your recovery right now. Here is what Parts Work addresses that most recovery...
Today the Church celebrates the 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year A. Here's my reflection... First Reading, Isaiah 22:19-23God strips the unfaithful Shebna of his office and hands the key of the House of David to Eliakim. One man out, one man in, the authority entrusted and the office continuing. The Church must pair this reading with today's Gospel deliberately. Eliakim is the steward of David's household carrying the key on his shoulder. Peter is the steward of the new David's household...
